JAMMMZ NEEDS your donations ! Please donate and help us maintaine the site.
After several weeks of silence, we are finally coming back to make some important announcements regarding the Jammmz community and platform. Before we get to that, however, I would like to tell you a little bit more about Jammmz.
My name is Elad Zucker, and I am the founder and creator of Jammmz—an idea that came to me about two years ago while I was playing and practicing my guitar.
The premise of an interactive teaching community where members could vote on and give feedback to their peers was an exciting and new realm I wanted to be a part of. I recruited Ace (Assaf Azulay, a very talented guitar player most of you are now familiar with) to help create the content for the site. A year’s worth of blood, sweat, and tears went into the endless hours of coding and design for the site as it stands today. I fronted all the expenses, host it, advertise it to grow the community even stronger, I pay for the rights to use copyrighted content; and, I also pay our talented instructors to create the packages that we all enjoy challenging ourselves with.
Today, I am very proud to say that we have reached 4,500 active users that regularly participate in the Jammmz challenges and give back to the community by voting and giving feedback. We also have over 40,000 registered users in total, some of which aren’t as die-hard about the site but we do see some activity from them. We have reached a whopping 14,000 uploaded solutions and over 100,000 registered votes this year!
All this activity is due to the exceptional content that we feature on Jammmz. This comes in part from an agreement with a licensing company that allows us to use some of these coveted licks and riffs from killer songs you all are dying to learn. Copyrighted material, however, comes with a price—a quarterly fee that needs to be paid.
We calculated that through selling premium packages, we would be able to recoup the hosting and advertisement fees. Sadly, those calculations fell short and we were not even able to cover 10% of those costs. This situation has therefore greatly impacted how much more we are able to enhance, develop, and promote Jammmz.
After much contemplation, I have come to the decision that not only can I not continue investing my own money into this site, but that Jammmz itself is going to function a bit differently from now on.
It may sound strange to therefore introduce a totally free Jammmz site, but that is exactly what is going to happen. Here is the breakdown of how Jammmz is now going to function:
There will be a donation applet on the site showing the monthly total needed to run, host, and maintain the site. It is our hope that being one of the vast amount of active users, you will take advantage of this way to give back to the community to keep new ideas and challenges flowing! If, through this method we cannot even bring in enough funds to cover the hosting fees, we will begin to implement other strategies to keep the site up and running.
Due to the new implementation of the donation payment option, we are sadly going to have to remove the 4 copyrighted packages that have been available through Jammmz. While using this material, we are not allowed to ask for donations. Fear not -- those who have already paid for this material will still have access to it! Newcomers to the site will no longer be able to see this content. If you are interested in this material, make sure to purchase it before July 1st.
New packages will continue to emerge and captivate the Jammmz community, but, the work is up to us! We are a very large and talented group, and through the social media outlets connected to this site, it is a good opportunity for musicians to get exposure. We are henceforth welcoming instructional content from experienced musicians; so if you know any, be sure to point them in the Jammmz direction! Being a part of the content creation team, these instructors and musicians will be featured in the advertising mailers sent out by Jammmz. Remember, we have over 40,000 registered users—that’s some serious exposure for websites, methodology, books, photos, or whatever else they want to promote! And of course, the package submitted to Jammmz will be available on the site so that members can take on the challenges and learn techniques. Stay tuned for a document detailing how to go about submitting a package to Jammmz!
Due to cutting back on paid advertising, the community is going to function mostly by word-of-mouth. That means the more you talk about Jammmz, the more people will find out about it. Use the ability to link to Facebook to post top scores for a recent challenge and engage your friends and rivals in a battle over musical prowess. The fact that the site is now going to be totally free is something few other sites these days can boast, and we hope that you, your friends, and your family will take advantage of the unique features Jammmz has to offer all while giving back to the community through voting and interacting, donating, and spreading the word!
Because of the format change, we are opening positions in the development and maintenance side of the site. If you are willing to help us, please do not hesitate to get in contact! Additionally, we are also looking for dedicated staff members to help resolve unfair voting conflicts, editing, and electing solutions of the week. There is also a great need for graphics / design assistance, and writers / editors as well. Please reach out to us at email@example.com if you would like to take on one of these responsibilities.
We are in the process of weighing the pros and cons of ad placement on the site as a supplement / alternative to the donation method. With more site analytics, we will be able to decide if this is a fruitful approach to help combat the costs associated with running Jammmz.
We have a very large wish list compiled of features that we really want to add to the site. If this change goes in our favor and the response is great enough, we will once again be able to start adding new and exciting elements to Jammmz!
I am very proud of what this community has become, and I look forward to interacting will all of you out there in the coming months!
